Resize image for Instagram
Get your photos to the exact sizes Instagram uses — square, portrait, story or landscape — so nothing important is cut off when you post.
How to use it
- Choose your photo.
- Pick square, portrait, story or landscape. The photo is cropped to that shape from the centre.
- Download and post — or use the crop tool first to choose exactly which part is kept.
Instagram’s sizes
Instagram displays posts at 1080 pixels wide. Uploading at exactly these sizes stops the app from cropping or compressing your photo in ways you did not choose:
- Square post: 1080 × 1080 px (1:1)
- Portrait post: 1080 × 1350 px (4:5) — takes up the most space in the feed
- Story and Reel: 1080 × 1920 px (9:16)
- Landscape post: 1080 × 566 px (1.91:1)
Choose what stays in the frame
Resizing to a different shape trims the edges evenly. If your subject is off-centre, use the crop tool with the 1:1, 4:5 or 9:16 ratio to pick the exact area, then come back here to resize it to 1080 px.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. Resizing happens inside your browser on your own device, so your photos are never sent to a server.
Which size is best for the feed?
Portrait (1080 × 1350). It fills the most screen space on phones, so posts get noticed more.
Does this work for Facebook and WhatsApp too?
Yes. Square and portrait images work well on Facebook, and 1080 × 1920 is right for WhatsApp and Facebook stories.
