About FreeToolsDesk

Tools that respect your files

FreeToolsDesk is a growing set of free everyday tools — audio tools such as a noise remover and MP3 cutter, and image tools such as an exact-size photo compressor and passport photo maker. They share one idea: the work happens on your own device, inside your web browser.

Most online tools upload your file to a server, process it there, and limit how much you can do for free because server time costs money. Doing the work on your device removes the upload wait, removes the limits, and means your files are never stored or seen by anyone.

The technology

Noise removal uses DeepFilterNet3, an open-source speech enhancement model by Hendrik Schröter and colleagues at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, compiled to WebAssembly. MP3 files are encoded with the LAME encoder. iPhone HEIC photos are decoded with libheif (LGPL-3.0) via the heic-to library, which is downloaded only when you open a HEIC file. Everything else uses the Web Audio API and image APIs built into your browser.
