Mic test
Check that your microphone works and hear how you sound. See a live level meter, record five seconds and play it back — before your call, class or recording.
Your browser will ask for permission. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere until you press Record.
How to use it
- Press "Start mic test" and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Speak normally. The meter should move into the middle of the bar; if it hits the right end you are too loud or too close.
- Record five seconds and listen back to hear exactly what other people hear.
Reading the level meter
The bar shows how loud your microphone is picking you up. When you speak normally it should sit in the green "Good" zone. In the left zone you are too quiet — move closer or raise the input volume. If it reaches the red zone you are too loud and may sound distorted.
Fix a microphone that is not working
If the meter does not move:
- Check the microphone is not muted — headsets often have a mute switch on the cable or ear cup.
- Pick the right microphone from the list; laptops often default to the built-in one.
- Close Zoom, Teams, Discord or other apps that may be holding the microphone.
- Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone → allow your browser.
- Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → allow your browser.
Hear what others hear
The test recording is made with the browser’s noise suppression and automatic volume turned off, so you hear what the microphone actually picks up — including any background noise, echo or hum that calls try to hide.
Frequently asked questions
Is my voice recorded or uploaded?
No. The meter runs entirely in your browser. The five-second test recording stays on your device and disappears when you close the page.
Does it work with headsets and USB microphones?
Yes. Any microphone your computer recognises appears in the list, including USB, Bluetooth and headset microphones.
My recording has background noise. Can I fix it?
Yes — after recording, press "Remove noise from this recording" to clean it with the AI noise remover.
Does it work on phones?
Yes, in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone. Allow microphone access when asked.
