How to use it

  1. Choose the quiet MP3.
  2. Drag the volume slider up and press play to compare.
  3. Download the louder MP3 — at 320 kbps if you want the highest quality.

Why some MP3s are so quiet

Recordings made on phones and dictaphones, old MP3 rips and audio exported from video calls are often mastered far below full volume. On a phone speaker or in a car they are hard to hear even at maximum volume.

Raising the level of the file itself fixes this everywhere it is played, instead of relying on each device’s volume control.

Choosing the MP3 quality

Saving re-encodes the MP3. For music choose 320 kbps; for speech, podcasts and voice memos 128 kbps is plenty and keeps the file small. Choose WAV if you plan to edit the file further.

Frequently asked questions

Will a louder MP3 sound worse?

Not if "Prevent distortion" is on — the volume only goes up as far as it can without clipping. Re-encoding at 192 or 320 kbps is inaudible for almost everyone.

Can I increase the volume of several MP3s?

Process them one after another — each takes only a few seconds. Batch processing may be added in the future.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in Chrome or Safari. The louder file is saved to your downloads.
